Bookclub - August Edition

Read: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
Date of meet up: 8/25/11
Location: Panera Bread
Number of attendents: 5

There were mixed reviews about the book. Everyone had very strong feelings about it which made for interesting conversation. Lindsay hated it. She said it pained her very much to read it and it took her a long time to get through it, like 2 weeks. She’s a mom to 2 young kids (5 and 2) and she said she just couldn’t imagine those things happening. We all agreed it was well written but horribly sad.

I think it was a shocker mostly because we just read The Help which is kind of a “feel good” book. And then we read this really sad book that’s a TRUE story. Everyone felt The Help read like it was non-fiction but The Glass Castle was so unbelievable, it almost had to be true.

Corrina suggested a book for October's pick, we talked about The Hunger Games (which 3 of us have read but will read again) so I posted those 2 on October’s poll. And Water for Elephants since I haven't read it yet but want to try again.

Everyone wants to keep meeting at Panera since it’s local (I brought up the library again since I was going to try for October’s meeting there.) so we’ll just keep meeting there. And everyone wants to do something in like 2 weeks, maybe see a movie again or something like that.

September book will be: These Things Hidden by Heather Gudenkauf.
