Bookclub - September Edition

Read: These Things Hidden by Heather Gudenkauf
Date of meet up: 9/29/11
Location: Panera Bread
Number of attendents: 3

I was a bit disappointed in this months book club. Not because of the book (more on that in a minute) but because no one showed up. Kyrie and my mom came (which I'm glad) but Corrinna and Lindsay didn't come and the new girl Jennifer (first book club attendence) didn't come. Of course, Corrinna and Jennifer RSVPed (Lindsay didn't). It was just disappointing to me. And then, I felt kind of mean this morning when I marked Corrinna and Jennifer as "no shows".

And I didn't finish this book. I plan to. I have about 80 pages left. Time just got away from me this month. I started reading another series (my beloved paranormal romances that suck me in) and then I started re-reading the In Death books by JD Robb. Before I knew it, it was the Sunday before book club and I hadn't even started! I did start right away and read as much as I could until 6:30 last night. I always take the book with me to book club so when I got stuck by a train, on my way, I read. :)

I let my mom head up the meeting since she'd finished the book (and filled me in on what I hadn't read yet so I didn't feel left out) which was fun. I think I might let someone else lead next month as well. We could all take turns. We all really enjoyed the book, despite the fact that it had sad subject matter. The chapters being written from the different perspectives of the characters and the little "twist" at the ending, reminded me a lot of the way Jodi Picoult writes. I think that's why I've enjoyed what I've read so far, Jodi is one of my favorite authors.

And I love, love, love hearing Kyrie's thoughts on things. She's an incredibly smart person who is sweet and kind - plus, she's going to school to be a mental health counselor so her opinions on things always have a different "feeling" to them.

It was a good book club, it reminded me of the first meeting when it was just the 3 of us. We all decided we're the "trifecta" of the book club. :) I was just disappointed the others couldn't make it. Oh well, maybe next month!

October book will be: The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender.
